Couquinho, the wine that in the local language of Alto Douro means “a place difficult to access”, has been produced on one of the Melo Trigo family farms for more than two centuries. Many of the other farms belonging to the family are, as well as Quinta do Couquinho, located in the Vilariça Valley where local legends and stories appear interconnected with the family.

The grapes were harvested by hand, at their ideal ripening point, with the intention that they present a vigorous ripeness, leading to greater aromatic and polyphenolic concentrations. Vinification was carried out in stainless steel tanks, allowing the quality constituents present in the films of very ripe grapes to pass smoothly into the wine, with slight pumping over and prolonged maceration. Aging: after malolactic fermentation, the wine aged in French Oak barrels, new and 2nd and 3rd years old, for 14 months.

Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and notes of rockrose and violet. Elegant aftertaste marked by the presence of wild fruits and floral notes with notes of dark chocolate. A wine with an excellent structure, perfect for intense cheeses, sausages and game dishes.
