Soalheiro First Vines Alvarinho 2023

Traditionally, wines from Melgaço were a blend of several native grape varieties from a single plot. However, in 1974, João António Cerdeira planted the first continuous vineyard, exclusively with the Alvarinho grape variety, in Melgaço. Thus, in 1982, he became a pioneer in bottling a single-variety Alvarinho wine in Melgaço. As the name of the wine suggests, “Primeiras Vinhas” is made from grapes from this plot, called Soalheiro, which gave its name to the brand, planted over 40 years ago. This wine displays an elegant structure and a complexity that is uncommon in Monção and Melgaço, using old vines to create an expression of the region’s potential for making great wines.
