Description
Château Haut-Brion in Pessac-Léognan was the only estate outside the Médoc included among the Premiers Grands Crus Classés of the 1855 classification, a title shown on its label, and it belongs to Domaine Clarence Dillon. It is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc of great elegance. This 2005 vintage is one of Bordeaux's most sought-after bottles.
In the glass it shows a deep colour and a nose of ripe black fruit, cedar, tobacco and graphite, with fine spice that gains complexity with air. The palate is structured and elegant, with firm yet polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long, persistent finish.
Decant one to two hours ahead and serve at 16–18 °C with roast kid, lamb chops, dry-aged beef or hard cheeses. It is a wine built for the long haul that rewards patient cellaring.
