Description
Le Pin is the cult wine of Pomerol created by the Thienpont family, who made the first vintage in 1979 from a vineyard of only about one hectare. Today the property covers around 2.7 hectares and the wine is made from Merlot in tiny quantities. This 2009 vintage is one of the rarest and most sought-after bottles on Bordeaux's entire Right Bank.
In the glass it shows a deep colour and a nose of ripe black fruit, cedar, tobacco and graphite, with fine spice that gains complexity with air. The palate is structured and elegant, with firm yet polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long, persistent finish.
Decant one to two hours ahead and serve at 16–18 °C with roast kid, lamb chops, dry-aged beef or hard cheeses. It is a wine built for the long haul that rewards patient cellaring.
