Description
Petrus is the most legendary wine of Pomerol: it comes from around 11.4 hectares at the highest point of the plateau, on the famous iron-rich blue clay known as the "boutonnière", and is made essentially from Merlot. It belongs to the family of Jean-François Moueix and is produced in very limited quantities, making every vintage, such as this 2011, a collector's piece sought after around the world.
In the glass it shows a deep colour and a nose of ripe black fruit, cedar, tobacco and graphite, with fine spice that gains complexity with air. The palate is structured and elegant, with firm yet polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long, persistent finish.
Decant one to two hours ahead and serve at 16–18 °C with roast kid, lamb chops, dry-aged beef or hard cheeses. It is a wine built for the long haul that rewards patient cellaring.
