Description
Vieux Château Certan, owned by the Thienpont family, is one of the great names of Pomerol, set at the heart of the plateau next to some of the appellation's most famous vineyards. Unlike most of its neighbours, it gives Cabernet Franc a major role alongside Merlot, which lends it a distinctive freshness and elegance.
In the glass it shows a deep colour and a nose of ripe black fruit, cedar, tobacco and graphite, with fine spice that gains complexity with air. The palate is structured and elegant, with firm yet polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long, persistent finish.
Decant one to two hours ahead and serve at 16–18 °C with roast kid, lamb chops, dry-aged beef or hard cheeses. It is a wine built for the long haul that rewards patient cellaring.
