Description
Alto Moncayo Veraton 2022 is a prestigious Spanish red, known for its intensity and structure, made by Bodegas Alto Moncayo in Campo de Borja. It is made exclusively from Garnacha grown on old vines between 30 and 50 years of age.
Luis Gutiérrez's tasting note (for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate) describes the 2022 Veraton as primary, ripe and juicy.
Key points of his review:
Aromas: Intense notes of very fresh black and red fruit — almost like biting into the grape itself — with unusual purity for a wine of this strength.
Structure and Palate: A harmonious wine with fine tannins and a texture that makes it very approachable and easy to drink now.
Balance: Despite the 16% alcohol typical of Campo de Borja Garnacha, Parker notes that the alcohol is well integrated and never overwhelms the fruit.
Ageing: 16 months in French and American oak barrels gives it structure without masking the character of the grape.
In short, the critic considers it a powerful yet balanced wine, more "open" and ready to enjoy than earlier, more austere vintages.
