Description
Launched by António Augusto Ferreira and Joana Queiroz Ribeiro, with winemaking by Frenchman Jean-Hugues Gros, himself a producer in the region.
Made from traditional old Douro vines, including Touriga Nacional and Tinta Francisca, this is a ruby-coloured wine with notes of red fruit and spice, still fresh, with fine, ripe tannins.
The wine is the personal project of António Augusto Ferreira who, after several years in the beer business, decided to settle in Folgosa do Douro and start making premium wines.
This Dona Francisca 2021 is deep ruby with violet hints. The nose is intense, with ripe aromas of black fruit, cherry and blackberry in harmony with new oak, which adds complexity. On the palate it is broad and round, with soft, fine tannins, cherry notes and a light touch of spice. Fresh and balanced, with a long, mineral finish.
