96 points Robert Parker and 94 Wine Enthusiast points
The Ujo Vineyard was planted in 1930 on horizontal pre-phylloxera terraces, with the soil supported by small schist walls. Its more than 25 grape varieties represent a diversity only found in such old vineyards. Set on small terraces facing north, at altitudes ranging from 180 to 210 metres, they are tended year after year by the experienced hands of those who live the Douro day after day.
This red wine has an intense ruby colour, with reflections that highlight its vivacity. On the nose, it reveals a remarkable aromatic finesse: an elegant expression of ripe fruit, complemented by subtle resinous nuances that enrich its bouquet.
On the palate, the wine is open and straightforward, with a creamy texture that reflects the vineyard’s excellent exposure to the east, allowing the virtues of the terroir to manifest themselves with balance and personality. The barrel work is noteworthy, providing complexity and harmoniously integrating the wood, resulting in an incredibly elegant and long finish.
Each decision in the cellar proved to be of enormous value, culminating in a wine that combines tradition and innovation, perfect for connoisseurs seeking sophistication and authenticity in every sip.
