Alongside Léoville-Las-Cases, Latour and Pichon-Longueville, Léoville-Poyferré is doing its best to defend itself in the race for excellence in an appellation that has no shortage of competitors. It must be said that the estate is located in the heart of the best Médoc lands. Thanks to the invaluable advice of renowned winemaker Michel Rolland, the wine occupies a fine place among the top wines of Saint-Julien. The wines are deep, full-bodied and lively, and can boast a complex bouquet and good ageing potential.

Jeb Dunnuck: The standout wine, the 2021 Château Léoville Poyferré, is a marvel and certainly makes the most of the vintage. Composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and the remainder Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, reaching 14% alcohol (with a TPI of 78 and a pH of 3.85), its deep purple hue is followed by a rich, concentrated, medium- to full-bodied Saint-Julien with remarkable purity of fruit, notes of cassis, violets and spicy wood, ripe tannins and an extraordinary overall balance. It has more richness and depth than most wines from this vintage and will undoubtedly provide immense pleasure for the next 20-25 years.

James Suckling: Deep complexity and excellent balance with a modern touch of cocoa powder combined with black olives, pencil shavings, cassis, violets, black mushrooms and dark earth. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with fresh, vertical tannins and plenty of juicy fruit that dissolves seamlessly into a savoury, lingering finish. Refined power with real longevity. Ready to drink or cellar.
