Description
La Landonne is the most austere and profound of Maison E. Guigal's three "La La" wines. It comes from a very steep slope of the Côte Brune in Côte-Rôtie, on iron-rich schist, and is made from Syrah alone. The first vintage was 1978, and it has since become a world reference for lovers of the northern Rhône, produced in very small quantities.
In the glass it shows an intense colour and a nose of blackberry, violet, black olive, pepper and cured meat over a smoky background. The palate is dense and silky, with fine tannins, freshness and a long, spicy finish.
Decant for at least an hour and serve at 16–18 °C with game, duck, roast lamb or aged cheeses. Already enjoyable, it has the structure to evolve for many years in the cellar.
