Description
Passagem Banco stands out for its well-balanced freshness, minerality and structure. Crystal-clear and bright, it shows aromas of white fruit and orange blossom. On the palate it lives up to its reputation with excellent acidity, a long finish and citrus flavours.
The Wine AdvocateRP 90+Reviewed by: Luis Gutiérrez
The Passagem wines come from the Douro Superior, not from the Quinta de la Rosa vineyards. The 2024 Passagem Branco shows the character of the site, with more marked notes of dried herbs and a mineral, dry feel on the palate. It was made with Rabigato from vines planted seven years ago. It fermented in stainless steel and barrels, and aged in barrel for seven months. It shows ripeness and balance, 12% alcohol and a pH of 3.3. 4,900 bottles were produced. It was bottled in May 2025.
After the drought came torrential rain. 2023 and 2024 replenished the water tables and made fresher wines possible, with a classic 2024 harvest. But the rain after the 2025 harvest was simply excessive. Quinta de la Rosa suffered badly. “The rain has caused untold damage to many of our dry-stone walls, and the road between Pinhão and La Rosa is closed due to landslides. We're quite isolated. I just hope it stops raining soon,” said owner Sophia Bergqvist in mid-February 2026.
Although most of the production is red wine and Port, Douro whites have gained great prominence and prestige in recent years. The estate has a wide range of these wines and makes between 40,000 and 50,000 litres. In 2019 they replanted 2.3 hectares of the Cerejinha vineyard with Alvarinho, Arinto and Gouveio. The 2023 and 2024 wines are increasingly fresh, coming after the very hot, dry 2022.
