With Redoma, they try, every year, to express what they consider to be the character of the Douro. The pronounced tannins represent the wildest and most untamed side of the region, with its steeply sloped vineyards. Its strong character is the result of mountain viticulture, the mineral notes express the region's schist soils and the rich, intense aromas remind us of hot summer days in the Douro. Redoma was the first DOC Douro wine produced by Niepoort in 1991 and, 21 years later, many things have changed in the Douro, but Redoma has maintained its character.

Suckling: This wine has spicy notes and dark fruits. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with soft tannins, a meaty, savory profile, and a delicate, fruity finish. Drink now. - Jacobo Garcia-Andrade Llamas, Senior Editor.

The Wine Advocate: The fragrant and elegant (for this wine) Redoma 2021 shows the freshness of the vintage, with a moderate alcohol content of 12% and a refined texture. This is a village wine from very old vines in the Tedo Valley, a field blend with a lot of Tinta Amarela (but also several others, such as Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Tinto Cão, Rufete, Bastardo...). It was fermented in a lagar with whole bunches and matured in very old and large oak barrels (from 2,000 to 11,000 liters) for a year. It presents spicy and peppery notes, with touches of dried fruits, a little earthy and salty, with structure and tannins, medium to full-bodied. This is a very important wine for Niepoort, a little more rustic, but representing the character of the Douro, being a kind of flagship of the winery (Dirk said: no small barrels, many stems, a wilder wine). 30,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in July 2023. - Luis Gutiérrez.
