The Château was purchased in 1863 by Baron Nathaniel Rothschild, who immediately changed its name from Château Mouton de Pauillac to its current name of Château Mouton Rothschild. It went through some turbulent times until 1922, when Phillipe de Rothschild took over the reins of the Château, which rose from the ashes with its first bottling at the Château in 1924. From the 1945 harvest onwards, with Château Mouton already at the height of recognition as a great wine, all of its labels began to be illustrated by famous contemporary artists, such as Picasso, Chagall, Miró, etc. In recognition of its great wine, Château Mouton was elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé, the elite of Médoc wines.

Their wines are powerful and rich, but with a sense of refinement and a velvety texture when aged. They are truly magnificent and unforgettable wines. Made from the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot grape varieties, in percentages that vary from year to year, although Cabernet Sauvignon will always be in the majority. Many wines have been born in this house over the years, and many stories have been told within the doors of this magnificent Château. The wines will speak for themselves, as they are some of the most sought-after wines in the world, as many of them are among the best wines ever made in the world.
