Description

Vinhos Barbeito, founded in 1946 in Funchal, is now one of Madeira's most admired producers, known for the purity and precision of its wines. This 1978 Frasqueira is made from Boal, the grape behind the medium-sweet style, and aged for decades in oak casks before bottling.

In the glass it is amber with greenish glints, with an intense nose of nuts, orange peel, caramel, spice and iodine. The palate has the vibrant acidity typical of Madeira, bringing freshness and an endless finish.

Serve at 14–16 °C with aged cheeses, foie gras, nuts or caramel desserts. Once opened the bottle keeps for months, and this is one of the great rarities of Portuguese wine.
