Description
H.M. Borges Malmsey (Malvasia) +50 Anos is an exceptional premium Madeira made from a blend whose oldest, most select reserves give an estimated real average age of around 70 years. This limited edition (about 1,100 bottles) represents the pinnacle of the century-old house of H.M. Borges's ageing tradition.
Critical Praise: Madeira specialists often describe it as "apotheotic", praising it highly because its profile shows an estimated average age of 70 years (well above the 50 years required for the label).
Tasting Note
Appearance
A very deep topaz hue, with brownish nuances, orange glints and delicate golden highlights that immediately reveal its long evolution.
AromaNose
A nose of enormous complexity and depth, marked by an expressive array of dried-fruit aromas such as toasted almond and walnut, wrapped in notes of vanilla, caramel and old wood. Subtler nuances of iodine, tobacco and spice add dimension and elegance.
Palate
On the palate it's sweet, dense and extraordinarily enveloping. The unctuous sweetness is balanced by vibrant acidity, characteristic of great Madeiras, bringing freshness and tension. Fine tannins from the wood add structure and complexity. The finish is long, persistent and marked by remarkable aromatic concentration.
Profile and Serving
A full-bodied, deep and highly complex Malvasia-style Madeira, made for slow, contemplative tasting. Serve lightly chilled, between 14 ºC and 16 ºC, so that all its aromatic and flavour richness unfolds gradually.
Food pairingPairing
Ideal with intense desserts, especially those based on dark chocolate, nuts, caramel and spice. Given its extraordinary complexity and persistence, it can also be enjoyed on its own at the end of a meal, prolonging the experience calmly and contemplatively.
