Quinta das Bágeiras Pai Abel red 2017 (Excellence Great Choices 2025)

The name Mário Sérgio Alves Nuno may not mean much to the most absent-minded, but he is nothing less than the great mentor behind the great wines of Quinta das Bágeiras. The history of Quinta das Bágeiras can be summed up in the work of 3 generations, however, it was only in 1989, and under the leadership of Mário Sérgio, that Quinta das Bágeiras wines began to be bottled and sold, quickly becoming a reference in Bairrada wines and in Portugal.

Quinta das Bágeiras Pai Abel Tinto 2017 is a true expression of Bairrada’s tradition and mastery. Refined and polished, it has a deep ruby colour and a well-defined identity due to the Baga grape variety. On the nose, it reveals a subtle aroma of wild berries, undergrowth and moss, wrapped in a firm, spicy balsamic ‘nuances’. On the palate, it surprises with its vibrancy and balance, counteracting any excessive alcoholic sensation. This vintage, the result of increasingly refined work, results in a wine of great depth and longevity, bordering on perfection. A remarkable example from the wise hand of Mário Sérgio Alves Nuno.
