Boekenhoutskloof The Chocolate is a top-notch wine from winemaker Marc Kent, with lots of concentrated fruit, structure and balance. It is a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache Noir, Cinsault and Viognier. Extremely perfumed on the nose. An abundance of red and dark fruits, violets and an intense aroma of white pepper. And then, an explosion of flavors on the palate. All layers: from ripe and soft fruits, through spices such as cardamom, cumin and cloves, to black peppercorns. Concentrated, structured and balanced. With fine acidity, tannins reminiscent of cocoa powder and a character of cedar wood. It finishes with a long and seductive aftertaste. This internationally loved red wine is powerful, a true end-of-day wine. Ideal with a dinner of grilled meat, with a cheese board as a finale or later by the fire. It also makes an ideal gift.

The 2023 Chocolate Block vintage is made up of 74% Syrah, 11% Grenache, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cinsault and 1% Viognier.

Boekenhoutskloof is a prestigious winery in Franschhoek, notable for its quality. It was founded three centuries ago by French Huguenots, despite the unusual Afrikaans name for the French region of Franschhoek. The current winemaker, Marc Kent, maintains a strong connection with France. He visits at least once a year to seek inspiration from the northern Rhône, especially Cornas. In 2020, Boekenhoutskloof was voted the best winery in South Africa by the Platter guide.
