Description
The Grand Vin de Château Latour is one of the five Premiers Grands Crus Classés of the Médoc, a title shown on the label beside the famous tower, and it is grown in Pauillac near the Gironde estuary. It is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, completed with Merlot, and is famed for its structure and longevity. This 2005 vintage is one of the most sought-after references for collectors.
In the glass it shows a deep colour and a nose of ripe black fruit, cedar, tobacco and graphite, with fine spice that gains complexity with air. The palate is structured and elegant, with firm yet polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long, persistent finish.
Decant one to two hours ahead and serve at 16–18 °C with roast kid, lamb chops, dry-aged beef or hard cheeses. It is a wine built for the long haul that rewards patient cellaring.
