The expressive Guru Branco 2024 has a perfumed nose with notes of spice, smoke and toast. It shows a balsamic, slightly medicinal/minty character, with complex aromas that open up and gain depth as it sits in the glass, with citrus, herbal and floral notes, in a clean, intense whole.

It has been made since 2004 from old vines in the village of Porrais, in a transition zone between schist and granite. It comes from 18 small plots of very old vines planted with a mix of grapes, mainly Viosinho, Rabigato, Códega do Larinho and Gouveio.

Fermentation took place in 225- and 500-litre French oak barrels, only 5% new, over eight weeks at low temperature. The wine then aged in barrel for nine months with bâtonnage.

Still young and undeveloped, it shows some oak at this stage, but has an excellent track record of integrating the oak and gaining complexity in bottle. It has 12.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.31 and 5.5 g/l acidity.

19,568 bottles were produced. The wine was bottled in May 2025.

Wine & Soul is the project of couple Jorge Serôdio and Sandra Tavares. They own 45 hectares in different Douro villages, 80% of them old vines. Total production is 180,000 bottles.

2023 was a rainy year with moderate temperatures, allowing the soil to replenish its water reserves after several years of severe drought, especially 2022. Spring was stable, with good flowering and fruit set, giving a larger crop than in 2022 and 2020. Summer was hot but without extremes, allowing slow, balanced ripening. The grapes showed good phenolic ripeness, well-defined aromas and good acidity. The 2023 reds show careful winemaking, with restrained ripeness, good freshness and balance and well-integrated oak, making powerful yet elegant wines.

2024 had more classic, balanced conditions: a winter with good rainfall, allowing water reserves to be properly replenished; a stable spring favouring balanced vine growth; and a moderate summer with good day–night temperature swings and no heatwaves, promoting slow, complete ripening.
