Description
Quinta da Pellada Muleta 2020 is a prestigious red from the Dão, made by renowned winemaker Álvaro Castro. It's known for its elegant, sophisticated profile and the freshness typical of this estate's wines.
The Wine AdvocateRP 96Reviewed by: Luis Gutiérrez
The 2020 Muleta is a super-classic red and it's amazing. It must be like the wines of 50 years ago — austere, serious, full of nuance, elegant and subtle. This wine is mostly Jaen and Baga. The vines of the Muleta vineyard, on the north-facing slopes of the Mondego, are dying, and they had to use some grapes from other vineyards to complement them; they have three plots nearly 100 years old.
It aged in seven-year-old 225-litre French oak barrels for 15 months. It has a very balanced palate with fine-grained tannins. They opened a 2013 for me so I could see the nice rusticity this wine has and how it evolves into something elegant, like the ugly duckling... that was never actually ugly.
It's a wine for both the table and the cellar, as it evolves very slowly.
