Wine profile
Body
This wine: 3 out of 5 — right in the middle.
How heavy and full the wine feels in your mouth — from light like skimmed milk to rich like cream. It comes mainly from alcohol, extract and, in sweet wines, sugar.

Description
Manoella Tinto Magnum 2023 is a Douro red in 1.5-litre (Magnum) format, made by the prestigious Wine & Soul (winemakers Sandra Tavares da Silva and Jorge Serôdio Borges). It's a blend of the traditional Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Francisca, at 13.5% alcohol.

The harmonious, approachable Manoella Tinto 2023 was made from grapes from 43-year-old vines of four varieties (60% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Franca, 10% Tinta Roriz and 5% Tinta Francisca), still interplanted in the vineyard at Quinta de Manoella, on rich soils.
It's a cooler area because of the surrounding forest, and the wine has a moderate 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.6 and 5.6 g/l acidity. Medium-bodied and balanced, it shows fine, well-integrated tannins.
It aged for 16 months in used, neutral oak barrels, which allowed harmonious development without overshadowing the character of the fruit and terroir. 76,435 bottles were produced. The wine was bottled in March 2024.
Wine & Soul is the project of couple Jorge Serôdio and Sandra Tavares. They own 45 hectares across different Douro villages, 80% of them old vines. Total production is 180,000 bottles.
2023 was a rainy year with moderate temperatures, allowing the soil to replenish its water reserves after several years of severe drought, particularly in 2022. Spring was stable, with good flowering and fruit set, giving a larger crop than in 2022 and 2020. Summer was hot but without extreme temperatures, allowing slow, balanced ripening. The grapes showed good phenolic ripeness, well-defined aromas and good acidity. The 2023 reds were made with great rigour, showing restrained ripeness, good freshness and balance, as well as integrated oak, combining power and elegance.
2024 had more classic, balanced conditions: a winter with good rainfall, allowing water reserves to be properly replenished; a stable spring that favoured balanced vine growth; and a moderate summer with good day–night temperature swings and no heatwaves, promoting slow, complete ripening.
