Description
Valderiz 2020 is a high-quality red made by Bodegas y Viñedos Valderiz in Spain's prestigious Ribera del Duero region.
Made from Tempranillo with a small percentage of Albillo, Valderiz 2020 is a pleasant, complex red on the nose, with aromas of blueberries, cocoa, coffee and cherries. On the palate it's pleasant and broad, again with notes of blueberries, cocoa and coffee.
The winery's story goes back to 1980, when Tomás decided to continue the family tradition and devote himself entirely to the vineyards, beginning to shape what is today one of the most recognised vineyard holdings in Ribera del Duero.
The winery has 60 hectares of vineyards planted by Tomás Esteban and 10 hectares planted by his father that he has preserved, made up of more than 35 bush-trained plots on different soils.
Valderiz 2020 has been very well received by international critics, consolidating the winery's reputation for excellence in Ribera del Duero.
The main critics' scores for the 2020 vintage are:
• James Suckling – 93 Points: He praised the combination of fine oak spice and cocoa with notes of ripe cherries and cassis, highlighting the full-bodied, polished palate with firm tannins and great balance.
• Guía Peñín – 93 Points: Spain's most prestigious wine guide gave this vintage 93 points, recognising its great consistency and expression of the region's terroir.
• Wine Spectator – 93 Points: The respected US magazine described the wine as "long and creamy", praising its supple tannins, juicy acidity and appealing notes of fig, mocha and sage.
