Description
Dönnhoff Schlossböckelheimer Felsenberg Riesling Trocken GG 2023 is a prestigious dry white from the Nahe, Germany, made from old vines (25 to 30 years) on volcanic porphyry and melaphyre soils. GG (Grosses Gewächs) is the top classification for dry wines from vineyards of exceptional quality (Grand Cru).
The Wine AdvocateRP 95Reviewed by: Stephan Reinhardt
Dönnhoff's 2023 Felsenberg Riesling trocken GG is beautifully pure, clear and bright — even slightly cool — on the deep, complex nose, which is still remarkably discreet yet refined for this warm, volcanic terroir, offering elegant notes of warm stones and pip fruit.
Round, refined and elegant on the palate, this is a generous, juicy and fruity Riesling with fine tannins and a long, intense, spicy and aromatic finish, delicately saline and mineral. It's an engaging, complex and textured Riesling, with firm, crunchy tannins on the finish.
An excellent 2023 that should develop beautifully over the years in bottle. Stated alcohol 12.5%. Natural cork. Tasted in August and October 2024.
Published: 31 October 2024.
James Suckling: "Radically smoky and massively structured, despite being only medium-bodied, this hauntingly dry Riesling expresses the personality of this volcanic site with great authority and precision. So much spice, structure and hardness in the positive sense, which means this isn't a wine for the faint-hearted. Massive power on the imposing finish, yet absolutely clean and bright. Drink or hold." A rough diamond.
