Description
Clear deep yellow; on the nose it's fresh and complex, with mineral notes of stone, gunflint, citrus, apricot and lemongrass. On the palate it's broad and subtly fresh, with the acidity carrying the aromas to a persistent finish.
Ana Paula Lopes and Inácio Loureiro are two Portuguese sommeliers who, at the age of 50, decided to leave the restaurant stage to the younger generation and change their lives. Their careers had taken them to the world's most important wine regions to taste the best made there, and of the thousands of bottles they opened, the Dão wines always charmed them with their subtlety, elegance and freshness, which even with some age they consider comparable to the great wines of Burgundy.
In 2019 they decided to move from Lisbon to this part of the country they love so much, took on a small Quinta in the mountain area of the Alva sub-region and, with their skills, started their own wine-tourism business to keep doing what they've always loved. Quinta da Aldeia Nova has 3 hectares of stony clay-limestone soils, mainly ferruginous quartz, sandstone and pebbles, at altitudes
ranging from 200 to 400 metres between the Açor, Estrela and Lousã ranges. The aim is to make wines like the great Dão wines of old: pure, light and true, made with great respect for nature and the consumer. Inácio works the vines naturally, using practices that strengthen the ecosystem's balance; several of the region's grapes have been planted, mainly Baga and Encruzado; and the winemaking is low-intervention, with spontaneous fermentations, little technology and no added oenological products, done precisely and carefully with consultant winemaker Carlos
Raposo. The result is wines that smell of wine, bursting with energy but always with a balanced structure.
