Altún Villacardiel 2023 is a single-plot red from DOCa Rioja, made by Bodegas Altún in Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa. This 100% Tempranillo stands out for reflecting the terroir of a vineyard at 630 metres, in an archaeological area with historic rock-cut lagares.

Tasting Notes: It has a bright cherry-red colour. On the nose it shows expressive aromas of red and black fruit (strawberries, blackberries) with floral notes and well-integrated oak. On the palate it's described as balanced, full-bodied and smooth, with polished tannins and a fresh, vibrant finish.

Altún Villacardiel comes from a 19-hectare plot at 630 metres, at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria, with Tempranillo vines planted on shallow limestone soil. The plot lies in an archaeological area where remains of rock-cut lagares were found, authentic evidence of the region's winemaking past. The vineyard is farmed with respect for the environment and picked by hand into 11 kg crates. In the winery, the grapes are sorted and destemmed. Fermentation uses native yeasts with temperature control, and maceration lasts about 15 days. The wine then ages for 8 months in French oak barrels and 6 months in concrete vats.
