Wine profile
Body
This wine: 5 out of 5 — closer to «full».
How heavy and full the wine feels in your mouth — from light like skimmed milk to rich like cream. It comes mainly from alcohol, extract and, in sweet wines, sugar.
Wine profile
Tannin
This wine: 2 out of 5 — closer to «silky».
Tannins come from grape skins, seeds and oak. You feel them as a pleasant drying grip on gums and tongue — from silky and velvety to firm and chewy.
Wine profile
Acidity
This wine: 2 out of 5 — closer to «soft».
The freshness that makes your mouth water, like a squeeze of lemon. It gives a wine tension, length and ageing potential, and makes it great with food.
Wine profile
Alcohol
This wine: 5 out of 5 — closer to «high» (14.5% vol.).
Alcohol brings warmth and body. Still wines usually sit between about 11% and 15% ABV, while fortified wines such as Port sit around 19–20%.
Wine profile
Sweetness
This wine: 1 out of 5 — closer to «dry».
The residual sugar you can taste. EU label guide for still wines: dry up to ~4 g/L, medium-dry up to ~12 g/L, medium-sweet up to ~45 g/L, sweet above that.

Description
Boekenhoutskloof Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is a high-end red from South Africa, internationally recognised for its balanced power and "Old World" precision. In fact, the renowned Boekenhoutskloof releases two distinct regional versions under this label in this vintage: one from Franschhoek and one from Stellenbosch.
Winemaker Gottfried Mocke describes the 2022 vintage as more "generous and approachable" because of a heatwave that produced wines with slightly softer acidity than the year before, ideal both for early drinking and for keeping.
The Wine Advocate
RP 94
The Boekenhoutskloof 2022 Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon is made with a small 15% Cabernet Franc component and aged almost entirely (90%) in new oak. The grapes come from a vineyard in a narrow ravine, where nights are quite cool and days very hot. The area needs a longer ripening period because of the greater shade cast by the nearby mountains in Stellenbosch.
Meanwhile, the side of the vineyard facing False Bay is influenced by ocean weather patterns, resulting in sharp temperature drops or diurnal swings. The soils are very old, with decomposed quartz.
This wine is soft, round and very pleasant, with plenty of body and intensity of flavour on the mid-palate. There's a touch of dried spice and sweet cinnamon. Both these Cabernet Sauvignons promise long ageing in bottle. Indeed, the winery has a late-release programme and, it seems, is currently pouring the 2001.
James Suckling:
Ripe blue and black fruit on the nose, with dried herbs, liquorice and mint chocolate. Creamy and velvety, full-bodied, but with minty freshness throughout. Silky tannins. Drink now or hold.
