Description
Boekenhoutskloof Syrah 2020 is a prestigious South African red from the Swartland region, known for its elegance and complex aromatics. This vintage stands out as the estate's first under 14% alcohol, giving a fresher, more precise style.
The Wine AdvocateRP 93Reviewed by: Anthony Mueller
The Syrah 2020, made with 65% whole bunches, shows dark cherry, dried flowers and a touch of black pepper on the nose. It's clean, fresh and precise, with a mineral expression and a dusty floral feel on the palate. Medium-bodied, it's a spicy wine that will surely shine even more with food. This Syrah aged for 18 months, 90% in Stockinger foudres. It promises a delicious, versatile drinking experience, but decanting for 30 minutes is recommended. Exactly 47,852 bottles were produced.
James Suckling: Lovely aromas of thyme, black pepper, iron, coriander and dark fruit. Medium-bodied, peppery and compact, with vibrant acidity and a focused finish. Long and persistent. Drink now or keep.
Tim Atkin: Given that 90% of the fruit comes from Porseleinberg (and the other 10% from Boekenhoutskloof's Roundstone property), it's no surprise this Syrah is so impressive. Fermented with 65% whole bunches, it combines aromas of fynbos (typical South African vegetation), lavender and Asian spice with a palate of white pepper, grilled meat, oregano and blackberry, all framed by juicy, grainy tannins.
