Description
Cascina Baricchi Barbaresco DOCG Riserva Quindicianni 2010 is a rare, ultra-late-release Piedmont red, made from Nebbiolo (specifically the rare Nebbiolo Rosé clone).
The name "Quindicianni" (fifteen years) refers to its rigorous maturation: the wine ages 5 years in large oak casks (botti), followed by 10 years in bottle before release.
The 2010 vintage is considered one of the best of recent decades in Piedmont. According to Wine-Searcher, it was a fantastic year with a cooler growing season, giving wines with excellent acidity and ageing potential, qualities the Quindicianni project maximises through its long ageing.
Wine Spectator rated the 2010 Piedmont vintage broadly as "classic" and one of the best of recent decades, highlighting wines with "firm structure, vibrant acidity and great longevity".
Nose: Extremely perfumed and complex, with notes of dried roses, black cherry, liquorice and exotic spice.
Palate: Described as silky and majestic, with perfect balance between integrated tannins and persistent mineral freshness.
Longevity: Considered a "brooding" (deep and intense) wine, only at the start of its maturity at 15 years, with potential to develop for decades more.
