Description
Izar-Leku Brut is a prestigious sparkling wine made by the renowned Artadi, in collaboration with the Zapiain family, in the Getariako Txakolina region of the Basque Country. Although often associated with the term "Cava" because of its production method, it's technically an Atlantic-influenced sparkling wine made from native Txakoli grapes.
The result is Izar-Leku, a sparkling wine charged with natural energy that, after long bottle ageing, gives great aromatic complexity and an attractive, distinctive saline minerality. Luis Guitierrez describes it like this: “… It's very tasty, with depth and complexity, surprising for such a young wine, powerful and long. What sets it apart from most sparkling wines is the salinity. Truly surprising!"
Artadi was founded in 1986 by a group of Rioja Alavesa growers who wanted to make authentic wines with distinctive character. Today they own three wineries: Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi in Rioja, Bodegas y Viñedos Artazu in Navarra and Bodegas y Viñedos El Sequé in Alicante.
Izar-Leku, meaning the place of the stars, comes from Gipuzkoa, from 60-year-old Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Beltza vines grown on clay slopes with slate and basalt. Made by the traditional method, the wine aged for 36 months on its lees.
