Description
Château Chasse-Spleen 2023 is a prestigious French red from the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation in Bordeaux. Known for its excellent consistency, the 2023 vintage stands out as aromatic, medium-bodied and very balanced.
With an impressive 93 points from James Suckling, Château Chasse-Spleen 2023 is one of the estate's most successful expressions in this vintage.
In the glass, the wine shows an elegant, captivating aromatic profile, where sweet spices intertwine with ripe plum and cassis, creating a whole that's both creamy and vibrant. On the palate it stands out for its remarkable precision, combining intense fruit with a strong mineral component typical of the great wines of Moulis-en-Médoc.
The structure is solid and refined, based on dense, chalky-textured tannins that give depth and ageing potential. The finish is long, harmonious and persistent, leaving a lasting impression of freshness and balance.
For James Suckling, this is an "excellent Chasse-Spleen" and a "real success", managing to combine the fruity richness of a warm vintage with the elegance and mineral freshness of the appellation's best wines. The critic recommends drinking it from 2027, when the tannic structure will be even more harmoniously integrated.
The Wine AdvocateRP 91+Reviewed by: William Kelley
The 2023 Chasse-Spleen offers aromas of sweet plums, berries and liquorice, framed by a subtle, elegant touch of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, with vibrant acidity and fine, powdery tannins, it's tense and youthfully structured, showing a little less immediate charm than I'd anticipated during the en primeur tastings.
