This wine: 3 out of 5 — right in the middle.

Description
Château La Gaffelière 2023 is a highly praised Bordeaux red from the prestigious Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. It stands out for its elegant, linear, deeply floral profile, ranking as one of the great successes of the 2023 vintage in the region.
Score:95 points(from critic James Molesworth)
Tasting Note: Molesworth described it as a refined, silky, restrained beauty. He highlights a focused core of ripe cherries and boysenberry infused with black tea. The palate shows subtle nuances of wood spice, dried anise and violets, moving steadily and fluidly to a finish marked by a touch of chalky minerality.
The Wine AdvocateRP 97Reviewed by: Yohan Castaing
The 2022 La Gaffelière, one of the best wines I've tasted from this estate, is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. Made mainly from the noblest slope vineyards below Ausone, it offers aromas of violet, dark berries, liquorice, cherries and smoke, with subtly integrated oak.
Medium to full-bodied, deep and powerful, it has a multidimensional, fleshy core of fruit and young but finely textured, powdery tannins, framed by a tense, energetic mid-palate typical of limestone soils.
It ends with a long, saline, complex finish that combines tension and charm very pleasingly. The wine aged for 19 months in barrel, 50% new.

The Wine AdvocateRP 97Reviewed by: Lisa Perrotti-Brown
The 2017 La Gaffelière is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple, the nose is a little closed at first, slowly opening to reveal fragrant kirsch, black raspberries and ripe plums, plus hints of unsmoked cigars, rosehip tea and undergrowth.
ColourMedium-bodied, the palate shows fantastic elegance and sophistication, with lots of vibrant, perfumed fruit and exquisitely ripe tannins, finishing with great freshness and energy. As La Gaffelière's lower plots were hit by frost that year, this wine comes mainly from the area on the Saint-Émilion plateau near Ausone. Truly impressive!
