Description
Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli 2016 is a prestigious Italian red, made only in exceptional vintages from the estate's oldest vines, planted in 1964.
The tasting note by Monica Larner for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate describes Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli 2016 as a wine of "beauty that sits at the intersection of intensity, elegance and power".
Wine Advocat-Robert Parker: this is Il Poggione's best wine and a must for anyone collecting wines from this famous estate. The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli 2016 is a beauty and comes from a top vintage, elegant and powerful. The fruit is well formed and dense, with plenty of blackberry and black cherry, and also picks up Chinese notes of campfire ash, tar, liquorice, iron-rich earth and balsamic herbs. Frankly, it gets everything, including Brunello's unmistakable power and richness, which aren't easy to achieve with such careful balance. The finish is structured, fresh and long, and the longer it stays in the glass, the more pronounced the leather and spice flavours become.
Wine Spectator: A beam of pure cherry runs through this lean, elegant red, shaded with floral, mineral, wild-herb and orange-peel touches. Well structured and long, it has the balance, focus and intensity for a long life.
James Suckling: The freshness and depth are impressive, with floral, dark-fruit and developed cherry character on a full body with rubbery, polished and solid tannins.
Falstaff: Sparkling ruby colour with a lightly brightening rim. A very clear, finely etched nose, aromas of fresh red cherries and fine raspberry. On the palate, polished, fine-meshed tannins, plenty of juicy fruit, describing a wide arc.
