Description
Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin Chablis 2024 is a prestigious organic white made entirely from Chardonnay in the renowned Chablis appellation of Burgundy, France. The 2024 growing season in the region was marked by severe weather challenges, including frost, hail and mildew. Even so, rigorous selection at the Droin family's historic winery has produced an exceptional wine that keeps the pure freshness and classic tension of the appellation.
The Wine AdvocateRP 90Reviewed by: William Kelley
Aromas of apples, peach, toasted nuts and iodine introduce the 2023 Chablis Village, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and elegant wine that's round and harmonious, concluding with a flavourful finish.
Benoît Droin's extremely reliable wines are among the most consistent in the region and, to my palate, the combination of Diam closures and élevages using recently used and occasionally new wood (though no more than 10%) means these wines need a few years in bottle to show their best. Everything invariably integrates to impressive effect, however, and the wines age with great elegance. Viticulture is conventional at this 26-hectare domaine, but the soils are ploughed and synthetic treatments are kept to a minimum. Harvesting is early and partly mechanised, followed by fermentation and élevage in stainless steel and wood, in proportions that vary by cuvée.
