Poças
Douro, Portugal · since 1918
Founded in 1918 by Manoel Domingues Poças Júnior, the house began by selling grape spirit to Port shippers. In 1932 it received Quinta das Quartas in settlement of a debt and started making wine. It is still run by the same family, now in its fourth generation, with three estates, one in each Douro sub-region, and 76 hectares of vines.

Wine profile
Body
This wine: 4 out of 5 — closer to «full».
How heavy and full the wine feels in your mouth — from light like skimmed milk to rich like cream. It comes mainly from alcohol, extract and, in sweet wines, sugar.
Wine profile
Tannin
This wine: 2 out of 5 — closer to «silky».
Tannins come from grape skins, seeds and oak. You feel them as a pleasant drying grip on gums and tongue — from silky and velvety to firm and chewy.
Wine profile
Acidity
This wine: 3 out of 5 — right in the middle.
The freshness that makes your mouth water, like a squeeze of lemon. It gives a wine tension, length and ageing potential, and makes it great with food.
Wine profile
Alcohol
This wine: 5 out of 5 — closer to «high» (20% vol.).
Alcohol brings warmth and body. Still wines usually sit between about 11% and 15% ABV, while fortified wines such as Port sit around 19–20%.

RP 94
Reviewed by: Mark Squires
The NV 30 Years Old Tawny Port was bottled in 2017 with a stopper cork and 113 grams of residual sugar. Impeccably balanced, it still shows plenty of concentration and power. It also has a beautiful texture, with a certain unctuous feel. It then finishes with the familiar set of aged Tawny notes: figs, caramel and molasses. Complex and moderately dense, it stands out above all for its bright, juicy, persistent finish. There's a certain tension here. Each time I went back to it, I liked it more. It isn't the fullest-bodied 30-year-old in this issue, but it is a very lively, fresh example, easy to drink and easy to admire.
94 pts Wine Spectator - Great aromatic richness and freshness, with a long list of luxurious notes: nuts and liqueurs. Very elegant on the palate and very long on the finish; the overall impression is excellent.
