Description
Quinta do Monte d'Oiro Petit Verdot 2023 is a very limited-production organic red made at the prestigious Quinta do Monte d'Oiro, in the Lisboa wine region (Alenquer).
The 2023 vintage continues the very distinctive profile of this French grape on the estate's terroir, marked by strong Atlantic influence and clay-limestone soils.
ColourA deep, very concentrated ruby of intense brightness.
AromaOn the nose it has an expressive, fresh aromatic profile, dominated by ripe black and blue fruit, minty notes and nuances of scrub and wild vegetation. Subtle toasty notes from extended ageing in French oak barrels add complexity and elegance.
PalateOn the palate it's dry and structured, with lively, precise acidity balancing the concentrated fruit. The tannins are firm, defined and well integrated, giving solidity and ageing capacity. The finish is long, fresh and persistent, showing a wine of great personality and excellent ageing potential in bottle.
Food pairingFood Pairing
Its robust structure, combined with freshness and vegetal notes, makes it an excellent partner for intense traditional Portuguese dishes such as cozido à portuguesa, lamb chops, grilled red meats and game.
Grégory Viennois, a renowned French winemaker (former technical director of the acclaimed Maison M. Chapoutier in the Rhône Valley), has been the winery's long-standing external technical consultant since 2006. His consultancy ensures that French-influenced grapes (such as Petit Verdot, Syrah and Viognier) express all their European elegance and balance with the Alenquer terroir.
