From a two-hectare plot with the oldest vines (over 50 years), the 2021 Höllenpfad Im Mühlenberg GG shows a deep, discreet and subtle but very complex and generous bouquet of ripe fruit and finely crushed stones (Rotliegend). Full-bodied, rich and intense, with immense concentration and substance, this is a powerful yet firmly structured, elegant, very long and complex Riesling, with ripe tannins and a refined, textural finish. The acidity is salty and ripe, very elegant and completely integrated with the body, fruit and tannins. Stated alcohol 13%. Natural cork. Tasted at the winery in July 2022.
Dönnhoff Riesling Trocken Höllenpfad Im Mühlenberg GG 2022 is an elite dry, complex white from Germany's Nahe, acclaimed by critics.
James Suckling: He described the wine as "dramatic", "super-stony and super-herbal" with "electric freshness" and a "vibrant finish".
Vinous: Anne Krebiehl MW described the structure as defined by its "stony yet rounded" nature, with "vivid glimpses of lemon oil", concluding it's "long, pure, citric and insistent".
Wine Spectator: It noted a burst of "apple and quince" flavours that turn "focused and spicy on the taut palate", with flint and lemon-lime notes.
