Monica Larner: From a stunning location that has to be seen to be believed, the Altesino 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Montosoli exudes dark fruit, cassis and crushed slate. The mineral element of Montosoli and its schist-rich galestro soils come through beautifully in this vintage, lending a linear sense of immediacy and verticality to the bouquet. The mouthfeel is especially elegant, with balanced acidity that brings out the freshness and, most importantly, the quality of the fruit. The effect is vibrant and luminous, with hints of baked brioche or Italian focaccia fresh from the oven, thanks to careful ageing in Slavonian oak. This edition is made in 12,000 bottles.
Altesino hits the nail on the head with its 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Montosoli. This wine stands out for its faithful representation of the terroir. The mineral sensations reflect the schist galestro soils of this unique vineyard.
