Description

Anselmo Mendes Parcela Única Branco 2022 is one of Portugal's most prestigious and iconic whites, made by renowned winemaker Anselmo Mendes in the Monção e Melgaço sub-region (DOC Vinho Verde). Made exclusively from Alvarinho, it comes from a single vineyard chosen for its extraordinary acidity, minerality and purity.

The 2022 Parcela Única is an Alvarinho from a specific 5.5-hectare plot at Quinta da Torre with the estate's oldest vines, planted on a site with more rounded pebbles over a mix of alluvial and river-terrace soils. The ripest bunches, from the lower part of the vines, are also selected for this wine.

It fermented and aged in new 400-litre oak barrels with a very light toast, where it stayed for nine months on the fine lees. It has a more balsamic, complex and evolved aromatic profile, showing subtlety and elegance, with signs of greater evolution, depth and complexity. The oak is perfectly integrated.

It shows excellent fruit ripeness, with 12.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.32 and 6.3 g/L total acidity. The finish is dry, serious and marked by strong granitic expression.

8,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in June 2023.

According to Anselmo Mendes, the 2024 Alvarinho harvest only began in mid-September, a factor that made all the difference. It was a year of slow ripening, in which the wide day-night temperature range during September allowed a longer growing cycle, favouring greater development of aromas and flavours. In his view, 2024 is an exceptional vintage.

The 2025 wines, still very young, showed some reductive notes and a lighter profile. However, these were only the entry-level wines.
