Anthony Mueller : The 2020 Syrah, made from 65% whole clusters, features dark cherry, dried flowers and a hint of black pepper on the nose. It is clean, fresh and precise, with a mineral expression and a dusty floral sensation on the palate. Medium-bodied, it is a spicy wine that will certainly shine even more when paired with food. This Syrah was aged for 18 months, with 90% in Stockinger foudres. It promises a delicious and versatile tasting experience, but decanting for 30 minutes is recommended. Exactly 47,852 bottles were produced.
James Suckling: Lovely aromas of thyme, black pepper, iron, coriander and dark fruits. Medium-bodied, peppery and compact, with vibrant acidity and a focused finish. Long and persistent. Drink now or cellar.
Tim Atkin: Considering that 90 percent of the raw material comes from Porseleinberg—and the other 10 percent from Boekenhoutskloof’s Roundstone estate—it’s no surprise that this Syrah is so impressive. Fermented with 65 percent whole clusters, it combines aromas of fynbos, lavender, and Asian spice with a palate of white pepper, grilled meat, oregano, and blackberry, all framed by juicy, grainy tannins.
