Vintage of impeccable phenolic maturity. After a dry, frost-free spring winter, flowering ended evenly in June. The summer was cold until September, which, hot and calm, guaranteed a harvest with excellent harmony between degree and acidity.
Viticulture: In very sandy soils with clay at around 50 cm and vines planted in clay, in a traditional 3x3 frame. The average yield is 2,500 kg per hectare.
Elaboration: The El Pozo harvest took place on September 17th with a first manual selection in the vineyard. After complete stemming, fermentation and maceration, with native yeasts, were extended for 15 days with temperatures up to 28ºC.
3rd month aged in new and used French oak barrels.
Bottling: 3,838 bottles and 201 magnums were bottled in July 2017.
The 2013 harvest classified as very good started in a complicated way. In the early stages of spring, in April and May, temperatures were low and it rained a lot, significantly delaying the start of the growing season. This produced a delay in flowering and consequently a later maturation. With all this, before the harvest, a considerable amount of water fell, which produced an interspersed harvest. After a cold and rainy year, the profile of the wines they produce is of lower concentration than usual. Fresher and with good acidity.
