Château La Fleur-Pétrus is one of the best-known wine estates in Pomerol. This historic estate, located exclusively on the plateau, was named in the 18th century for its position through the localities 'Petrus' and 'La Fleur'. Established in Libourne since 1937, Jean-Pierre Moueix quickly recognised the excellent quality of the Pomerol appellation. Château La Fleur-Pétrus was his first acquisition in 1950.
The personality of Château La Fleur-Pétrus lies in the careful combination of the famous clay terroir of the Pomerol plateau. The vineyard, located 33 to 38 metres above sea level, draws its identity from the nuances of the soil and the elevation of each plot. Plots dominated by pebbles tend to produce wines of great elegance, while those dominated by clay produce distinctly velvety, dense and structured wines.
A blend composed of 93% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, the result is a wine with a deep garnet color that starts off shyly, but opens up to offer aromas of kirsch, black raspberries and ripe plums, combined with nuances of aromas of ground cinnamon, earth and dried lavender. On the palate, it is full-bodied, elegant, with firm tannins and fantastic freshness, with a long and mineral finish.
