Description
Château Rayas is the most singular of all Châteauneuf-du-Pape: it has belonged to the Reynaud family since 1880 and its red is made from Grenache, on sandy, forest-ringed, north-facing vineyards very different from the appellation's typical rolled pebbles. Yields are very low and bottles extremely rare. This 2010 vintage is a collector's piece.
In the glass it shows an intense colour and a nose of blackberry, violet, black olive, pepper and cured meat over a smoky background. The palate is dense and silky, with fine tannins, freshness and a long, spicy finish.
Decant for at least an hour and serve at 16–18 °C with game, duck, roast lamb or aged cheeses. Already enjoyable, it has the structure to evolve for many years in the cellar.
