96 points Robert Parker and 95 points James Suckling

Situated on a steep southern slope, this ancient and famous site offers stunning views of the volcanic landscape. The vines withstand adverse conditions on the rocky soil, which heats up quickly in the sun and produces distinctive Rieslings. These wines are celebrated for their lively fruitiness, lively acidity and stony aromas that reflect the mineral richness of the land. At the heart of this extraordinary vineyard stands the Felsenturmchen (“little rocky tower”), a symbol of Donnhoff’s dedication and passion. Felsenberg wines are the result of a meticulous selection process that captures the essence of this unique terroir. They are dry, complex and smoky, with a stony character that is unmistakably Felsenberg.

Robert Parker: Dönnhoff's 2021 Felsenberg GG is pure, bright and hard on a deep, intense and iodized nose that also reveals phenolic complexity. Full-bodied but refined and elegant on the plate, it is a balanced and light Felsenberg, rich and dense, with juicy fruit and crystalline acidity, while the tannins lag behind compared to the Höllenpfad im Mühlenberg. The finish is rich but refined and saline, with delicate lemon bitters and lush fruit. Although the 2021 is already charming, the wine needs a few years in the bottle to show all its complexity and delicacy without the youthful charm. This is not an austere wine that needs to soften its contours; it is already dangerously good or even too good to cause patience. But the wine will reward those who know how to wait.

James Suckling: A diamond in the rough that is harder than almost anything else in the known universe! Radically stony and quite smoky too. Broad body with mature acidity and nothing sharp, but it is a very austere wine with enormous momentum in the bold finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification.
