From the granite soils of Tannenkirch, the 2021 Riesling Grand Cru Schlossberg comes from a 1.6-hectare parcel on horizontal terraces at the top of the Schlossberg. The 2021 opens with a clear, quite intense, warm and concentrated nose of fully ripe, fleshy but less juicy fruit, its flavours interwoven with herbal and mineral/stony notes.

Round and elegant on the palate, this is a refined, persistently saline and very long Riesling, but certainly not powerful and possibly also less complex and textured than Trimbach's other grands crus. The finish is a little austere at this stage.

In 2021 the vineyard had been farmed by Trimbach for 10 years, and it may be the terroir, but this is the family's slimmest, most austere Riesling, at least at this early stage.

13% declared alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.

"Extremely focused, with restrained power and concentration, this dry Alsace Riesling is a still very young masterpiece but already shows an abundance of Amalfi lemon, wild herbs and spice. Slim, precise palate. Super-long finish with incredible crushed-rock intensity. From 1.6 hectares of terraced vines at this famous site on ancient granite soil. Organically grown grapes."
