Luis Gutiérrez: The 2020 Pape has some reminiscences of Baga from Quinta da Pellada, as it was probably part of the blend. It is still a 50/50 blend of Baga da Pellada and Touriga do Outeiro, a vineyard acquired from the former owner of Quinta da Passarela. It has floral and spicy notes, making it a complex and complete wine. It is elegant, with notes of grenadine and raspberry. It spent three winters (30 months) in used 400-liter French oak barrels.

I made a quick visit to catch up with Álvaro Castro and taste the range of wines from Quinta da Pellada in Dão. They continue to be one of the best, if not the best, producers in the region and pioneers in the production of quality wines in Dão.

The wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in stainless steel tanks or used barrels, to avoid excessive oak aromas and flavors and to highlight the grape varieties and granite terroirs of the vineyards.
