Description
Pingus is the cult wine of Ribera del Duero created by Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck, who made the first vintage in 1995. It comes from old Tinto Fino vines in La Horra with very low yields and is made in tiny quantities, which has made it one of Spain's most expensive and sought-after wines. This 2013 vintage is a collector's bottle.
In the glass it shows a deep colour and a nose of ripe black and red fruit, liquorice, cocoa, spice and well-integrated oak. The palate is broad and firm, with fine-grained tannins, good freshness and a long, deep finish.
Decant one to two hours ahead and serve at 16–18 °C with roast lamb, suckling pig, red meat or aged sheep's cheese. It is a wine built for long ageing that rewards patience in the cellar.
