My favorite red wine from this tasting (except for the 10-year-old library label...) is the Impar 2018, a wine that, I must admit, I had not heard of before. It is quite classic, elegant and a bit closed. I was surprised when I saw the technical information and found out that it is a blend of 60% Touriga Nacional, 20% Sousão and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon! The wine is not shy, with 14.5% alcohol, but there is balance and harmony. When you pay attention to the details, you notice a minty touch typical of Cabernet and a pungent flavor that has a sharper tone than is usual in the Douro. It matured in French oak barrels for 20 months, and the bottles were stored for five years before release. 1,900 units were bottled in May 2020.

Poeira, or Quinta do Poeira, is the family project of the couple Jorge Moreira and Olga Martins. They own nine hectares in Provesende, in the Pinhão Valley, where the winery is located, with vines ranging from 21 to 70 years old, in addition to two hectares in Covas do Douro planted in 1950. They produce around 40,000 bottles.
