95/100 points Robert Parker
The first known historical references to Quinta da Pellada appear around 1570. The Dão Demarcated Region was established in 1908, framed by three mountain ranges – Buçaco, Caramulo and Serra da Estrela – which protect it from the Atlantic winds and provide it with very special climatic conditions. Álvaro Castro is one of the best Portuguese producers and the undisputed leader in his Dão region.
This wine is the result of an attempt to recreate the Pelada 2003, which, at the time, was intended to demonstrate the elegant and balanced character of Dão wines. Part of the blend comes from the Alto and Meio plots, from the old vineyards (70 years old) of Quinta da Pellada, where there is a great genetic heritage, with no predominance of any one variety. The other part of the blend comes from the Touriga Nacional from plot 5 of Quinta da Pellada.
