Traditionally, wines in Melgaço were a mixture of several native grape varieties from a single plot. But, in 1974, João António Cerdeira planted the first continuous vineyard, exclusively with the Alvarinho grape variety, in Melgaço. This is how, in 1982, he became a pioneer by bottling a single-varietal Alvarinho wine in Melgaço. As the name of the wine indicates, “Primeiras Vinhas” results from grapes from this plot, called Soalheiro and which gave its name to the brand, planted more than 40 years ago. This wine shows an elegant structure and complexity uncommon in Monção and Melgaço, using old vines to create a new expression of the region's potential to make great wines.
This wine made from our oldest vines demonstrates vibrant acidity and complexity from the wood, making it a versatile accompaniment to various dishes. It goes very well with seafood, all types of fish, white meat, aged cheese, smoked meat or Asian and Mediterranean dishes.
